I Am Not

I am not,
My skin.
My skin color does not define who I am as a person.  My skin color does not define my characteristics as a man and my performance capabilities in education or the white-collar world.  My skin color should not be perceived as something negative for my skin color is beautiful and carries a glow like no other.  I am not, my skin.

I am not,
A label.
Your labels do not define me as a person.  Your labels do not tell me how to conduct and live my life nor will they ever control me.  Your labels serve no function in the way that I perform as a man in this world and society that we live in.  Your labels serve no relevance to the functionality of my well-being.  I am not, a label.

I am not,
A Category.
Do not categorize me into the groups you categorize others in.  If you've never met me, how do you consider me a "dog" or "typical black man"?  I am not the same as all the others you have come across.  To say that people are all the same means that WE are all the same as a human race and there are MANY who will find it demeaning and insulting to be categorized.

I am not,
My religion.
Just because I am a Christian, please keep in mind that I am no where near perfect.  As well, I am not like other Christians.  I am not who other Christians portray to be.  I am not full of hatred and for the most part, I am not judgmental.

I am,
Myself.
I don't carry any labels.  I don't identify with anything except being human.  I love ALL people, no matter their religion, creed, ethnicity, sexuality, gender, etc.  I carry my own individuality and respect others who do the same because we do not always agree in one accord or see eye-to-eye.  I have my own beliefs and I respect the beliefs of others, even if we don't believe the same thing.  Respect me for the person I am, not the person you were taught to think I am.
